Greater Manchester Business Compliance Support

In 2023, the Greater Manchester local authorities’ public protection teams came together to form Greater Manchester’s Business Compliance Support. Thanks to a successful funding bid to the Regulators Pioneer Fund (part of the Department of Science, Innovation & Technology), we have created a brand new team of business compliance apprentices and environmental health graduates. They will form the next generation of regulators in Greater Manchester and ensure that they benefit from the vast experience and knowledge of our expert officers across the region before they retire. The team have already provided business compliance support to over 2000 businesses in 9-months ensuring the service benefits local authorities and businesses.

Hackney LBC

OpenMarkets.London

The Hackney Markets Service Team, led by Dan O'Sullivan, has transformed London’s market trading with the innovative Open Markets App. This ground-breaking platform digitises market trader licensing, unifying processes across multiple boroughs and drastically enhancing efficiency. Traders benefit from a streamlined application process, while Local Authorities enjoy reduced processing times, improved data management, and increased market occupancy. By bridging the gap between traders and councils, this app fosters vibrant local economies and supports high street recovery post-COVID-19. The Open Markets App exemplifies smarter working by integrating technology with community needs, setting a new standard for market operations in the UK.

Newham LBC

ILSS Trusted Assessors

In Newham, we believe Home Care delivery can, and should be different. Too often initiatives are developed to benefit one party – or, in the current climate, focus solely on savings. The Trusted Assessor approach is a win, win, win…• Residents: receive higher quality, more personalised support from better qualified staff to build their independence;• Care Workers: report a greater sense of job satisfaction and have access to career progression in a traditionally ‘flat’ structure;• Council: generates immediate and longer term savings by genuinely making residents more independent.

Surrey CC

SWOT - Smart Working Occupational Therapy (OT)

Tragedy has been the catalyst for the Reigate and Banstead Locality Team's OT Service to look at what is in their hands. They took what they had and decided to "Be the change you wish to see in the world" (Mahatma Gandhi). Believing that things do not have to be this way, they transformed their front door by implementing the 5 Steps Programme (Reframed), Duty Power Hour and their SWOT Service. The result, one of the top two busiest teams in Surrey not having a client waiting list while continuing to excel in service provision. In addition, the culture change created a confident and competent workforce free from fear; who is determined to share their story and develop practice across the Place. "We do not need a larger workforce, we need everyone to be the best they can be. That will be the game changer in Health and Social Care."
